;I was looking for a reaction from our bowlers after last week and got one'- Richard Beaumont
SOUTH Devon 1st XI rediscovered their winning habit with a six-wicket victory over lowly Chelston & Kingskerswell.
Chelston’s top-order batting appeared all at sea at times against South Devon’s new-ball attack of Mike Smith and Mali Marshall.
Marshall (3-20) and Smith, who took two wickets for seven runs conceded in nine overs, had Chelston & Kingskerswell wobbling at 38 for six before they were bowled out.
Twenty-three from Shrey Sancheti and 37 extras helped C&K get to 87 all out in the 37th over.
Dillip Salinda (3-13) took out most of the lower order, which left Danny Duke to sort out Sancheti.
South Devon’s pursuit wasn’t without incident as they were 10 for three – Vivek Kulkarni (2-16) posing problems against one of his former clubs – and only fractionally better off at 28 for four.
Man of the match Smith (30no) and Harry Senior (33no) polished off the rest of the target without further mishap.
It was the bounce-back win skipper Richard Beaumont wanted after the 178-run stuffing by leaders Paignton seven days earlier.
“I was looking for a reaction from our bowlers after last week and got one, which was very pleasing,” said Beaumont in a clear reference to Paignton’s total of 305 for six.
